Public relations is the strategic management of relationships between an organization and its diverse publics, through the use of communication, to achieve mutual understanding, realize organizational goals, and serve the public interest. (Flynn, Gregory & Valin, 2008)
For over 40 years, the Edmonton Member Society of CPRS has been serving the needs of the local community through the establishment and maintenance of high professional, educational and ethical standards in public relations.
CPRS was chartered as the Edmonton Member Society in 1963 and its first president was Eric B. Young, public relations manager for Interprovincial Pipelines.
Today the local member society consists of over 135 public relations practitioners, representing a diverse range of public and private sector organizations and public relations firms. 33 of its member practitioners have attained professional accreditation with CPRS, the official certification program for public relations professionals in Canada.
